“We Don’t Talk About Namo” — Silmarillion parody of Disney’s “We Don’t talk about Bruno”

“We Don’t Talk About Namo” — Silmarillion parody of Disney’s “We Don’t talk about Bruno”

*Following the original song’s themes of misunderstanding and gossip vs. reality, certain points of the parody are exaggerated, false (pointed out), or relate very little to Mandos/Namo himself.*

FËANOR: We don’t talk about Namo, no, no, no

We don’t talk about Namo, but

It was my wedding day

NERDANEL: It was our wedding day

FËANOR: We were getting ready

And Nolofinwë was nowhere in sight

NERDANEL: I don’t think that is quite right

FËANOR: Namo walks in with an ominous grin

NERDANEL: Yeah sure

FËANOR: I think I’d remember what happened!

NERDANEL: Oh of course, my dear, go on

FËANOR: Namo says, "Your brother’s there"

NERDANEL: Could’ve told us sooner

FËANOR: Nolvo lost the rings without a care!

NERDANEL: Mahtan, get the forge hammers!

FËANOR: Smith aprons are not wedding-wear!

NERDANEL: *laughing* not fully true, but anywho

FËANOR and NERDANEL: We don't talk about Namo, no, no, no

We don't talk about Namo

GALADRIEL AND FINROD:

Hey, grew to live in fear of Namo’s declarations of doom

We have always tried to recognize the hope through gloom

I associate him with the sound of blowing sails, sh-sh-sh

It's a heavy lift with foresight so humbling

Tried to help Finwë with the family’s fumbling

Grappling with prophecies they couldn't understand

        Do you understand?

MAEDHROS AND FINGON:

Eleven-foot frame, cloak over his head

If he calls your name, you’re probably dead

Yeah, he sees your fate, but you have to wait (Hey)

FEANOR, MAEDHROS, and FINGON: We don't talk about Namo, no, no, no

GALADRIEL and FINROD: No, no

FEANOR, MAEDHROS, and FINGON: We don't talk about Namo

GALADRIEL and FINROD: We don't talk about Namo

FINGOLFIN: He told me we’d be exiled, the next day, banned!

[Ensemble:] No, no

MAGLOR: He told me the Silmaril would burn in my hand

[Ensemble:] No, no

MAEDHROS: He said that with the oath we’d ruin our lives, now I understand

[Ensemble:]

        Hey!

        No, no

Can’t change your fate once you know what’s been planned

LUTHIEN:

He told me that my dancing was fair

And to pity his heart was inspired

He told me that the life of my dreams

Would be my choice if I so desired

ANGROD: Hey Aegnor, Andreth’s on her way

DAERON, CELEGORM, GWINDOR, and MAEGLIN:

He told me that the girl of my dreams

Would be just out of reach

        In love with a mortal

It's like I see her, now

CARANTHIR (to ANGROD): Hey cuz’, I want not a sound out of you!!!

AEGNOR: It's like I can see her now, I can see her now

CELEBRIMBOR:

        Um, Namo

        Yeah, about that Namo

I really need to know about Namo

Give me the truth and the whole truth, Namo

CURUFIN: Aredhel, your husband’s here!

TURGON and MAEGLIN: Execute him!

MAEHDROS and FINGON: Eleven-foot frame, cloak over his head

FËANOR: It was my wedding day

NERDANEL: It was our wedding day

LUTHIEN: He told me that my dancing was fair

NERDANEL: Yeah sure

FËANOR: I think I’d remember what happened!

NERDANEL: Oh of course, my dear, go on

LUTHIEN: Would be my choice if I so desired; I’m tired

GALADRIEL and FINROD:

Tried to help Finwë with the family’s fumbling

Grappling with prophecies they couldn't understand

        Do you understand?

ANGROD: Hey Aegnor, Andreth’s on her way

NERDANEL: not fully true

LUTHIEN and AEGNOR: And I'm tired, and I'm tired, and I'm tired, I'm tired

[Ensemble:]

        He's there

        Don't talk about Namo

CELEBRIMBOR:

Why did I talk about Namo?

[Ensemble:]

        Not a word about Namo

CELEBRIMBOR:

I never should have brought up Namo!
